Personally, I think this is a fascinating development that could revolutionize the way we think about construction and property ownership. Instead of waiting for defects to occur and then chasing developers or builders for years, LDI provides a mechanism for early intervention and prevention. If you take a step back and think about it, this makes sense. After all, it's much easier and cheaper to fix a defect during construction than it is to fix it years later. This raises a deeper question: why haven't we seen more adoption of LDI in the past? One possible explanation is that it's a relatively new concept in some regions, like the ACT, where it's only recently been introduced. However, as more people become aware of its benefits, I suspect we'll see a shift towards more proactive protection in the construction industry. By engaging a third-party engineering team to review design documentation and inspect work at key stages, LDI ensures that defects are identified early and rectified before they become major issues. While additional insurance and oversight might seem like an added cost, the benefits for consumers, of certainty and speed and confidence at the point of purchase, are also benefits for developers and builders. Projects with LDI are seeing stronger buyer demand and, in some cases, higher sale prices, turning what looks like a cost into reputational protection and commercial advantage. Personally, I think this is a powerful example of how insurance can be used to create a more transparent and accountable construction industry. It's a win-win for everyone involved, and I suspect we'll see more and more developers and builders adopting LDI in the future.
